Moreland, 1011 Davis Street, at 6:20 this morning in Borgess hospital. Mr. Moreland was hurt abut 8:30 while on the way to his office and was taken to the hospital suffering with what then was thought to be only cuts and bruises to his head. Sunday, his condition because worse and it was decided a blood clot resulting from the concussion when he was knocked to the pavement was causing complications. In spite of emergency measures, he died this morning. Lifelong Resident Here Mr. Moreland, a lifelong resident of Kalamazoo, was born here Oct. 5, 1890, the son of James R. and Mary E. Moreland. His elementary and high school education was received at St. Augustine school and shortly after starting his business career he started in the dairy business with his brother under the name of Moreland Brothers. Later he engaged in the coal business, was for a time manager of the state liquor store, and for the last six years had been deputy collector of the internal revenue department in the income tax division. In 1912 he married Mary Bowen. Funeral at 9 Saturday Funeral services at St. Augustine will be a requiem high mass at 9 Saturday morning with Fr. Frank Bowen, his brother-in-law, as celebrant. Besides his wife, Mr. Moreland is survived by his father James R. Moreland; four sons, Robert, Wyandotte; James, Detroit, and Jack and Joseph, Jr. at home; a daughter, Mrs. John Simons; a brother, Lyle M. Moreland, and three sisters, Mrs. John Muir, Mrs. Allen Roe, and Mrs. Charles A. Perry, all of Kalamazoo, and five grandchildren, Timothy and Molly, Wyandotte; Nancy, Detroit, and Donald and John Simons, Kalamazoo. Mr. Moreland was a lifelong member of St. Augustine parish and was on the rolls of the Holy Name society, the Knights of Columbus and the Elks lodge.
