CHARLES REDMOND AND FATHER, 84, DIE SAME WEEK
Latter Well-Known Paper Maker and Resident of City 60 Years
     Patrick Redmond, 84, for 60 years a resident of Kalamazoo, died at 10:30
Friday evening at his home in Cork street.
     Mr. Redmond was a native of Kildare, Ireland, and came to this country when
nine years of age.  In 1865, he came to Kalamazooo and with the organization of
the Kalamazoo Paper Compnay took a position in that mill.  The Redmond family
has become famous in the paper industry in this valley and has been written up
in nearly all the representative paper trade journals.  The majority of the 
Redmonds became identified with the paper industry.  All learned the trade from
the start and through real industry rose to positions of responsibility.
     Ten children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Redmond, eight of whom survive.  One
son, Charles F. Redmond, millwright at the Kalamazoo Paper Company, died less
than a week ago.  The surviving children are two daughter, Mrs. Frank J. Pickett
and Mrs. Alfred J. Pickett of Kalamazoo, and six sons, Michael, Wiliam [sic],
Patrick J., and David of this city, John of Detroit, and Cornelius F. of Los
Angeles.  Fifteen grand children are living.
     For years Mr. Redmond was a member of St. Augustine's parish and the Holy
Name Society of that church.  During late years he has been associated with St.
Joseph's church.
     Funeral will be held at 9 Wednesday morning in St. Joseph's church, the
Rev. Richard W. Grace officiating.  Burial will be in the family lot in Catholic
Riverside cemetery.  (Picture with "Paper Maker Dies" Patrick Redmond, 84 years
