SHANLEY D-DAY VICTIM Local Sergeant Killed, Parents Notified. Official word was received here from the war department Wednesday naming Kalamazoo's second D-Day Victim of the Allied Invasion of Northern France. He is Sgt. Robert Shanley, 22, U. S. 4th division artillery gunner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Shanley, 1408 Fulford street. He is believed to have lost his life a few minutes after the first khaki-clad waves plunged shoreward the morning of June 6.
