Stuart McCamley 1877 - 1961 Stuart McCamely was an important figure in the development of Portage Township. In the 1940's and 1950's he served as both President of the School Board and Township Supervisor. He was instrumental in the consolidation of various school districts into a consolidated Portage Township school district and he was a forceful advocate of education for Portage. During his tenure the pharmaceutical giant, the Upjohn Company (now Pfizer), built its main plant in Portage remaking the Township from a small rural community to a much larger suburb. Stuart McCamely had a farm on Portage Road that is still owned by family members.
