Pulte The school boundaries for Tyrone Township, District No. 1 School were redistricted in the school board minutes it was written that the school site moved from T10N R12W, SECTION 30 to Section 25 town range 10 North 13 west and the school board leased a site on the south east corner of section 25. The school board minutes always title themselves as Tyrone Township Fractional Casnovia School District even though the title of the journal is purely Tyrone Township District No. 1. The school was serving the community around the town of Casnovia, Michigan and the fact that it straddled the county and township lines was known by all there and confusing to researchers later. Whether the school site of this record crossed the border into Muskegon County is still under study. The families of the students listed in this list were closer to the new school house site or very loyal and wanted to continue to travel there. The significant decrease in the number of students from 125 in 1879 to 50 in 1880; a difference of 75 students, may have been affected by this division. The months of August and September also saw diphtheria striking the communities around Casnovia. The story of this tragedy was felt strongly in my family the William White family and is illustrated in the student census list for Tyrone Township, District No. 1 School for1880. The student Therressa White has a line tentatively through her name due to her death on Sept. 3, 1880. In fact William White is not even listed because he had died on August 24th, shortly before his baby sister Rose White, who would have begun school this year in 1880 at the age of 5. John White had also been ill, but Theressa’s dying reassurance, “Don’t worry, Ma, John will live.” proved true and John A. White went on going to this school and beyond, and he became a teacher in Tyrone Township and a great educator. Student Names for 1880 Director Edgar B.
