Some Early Settlers of Caledonia Township, Kent County, Michigan

First settler - 1838 - Asahel Kent, a tavern owner, in section 35
                1848 - Wm. H. Brown erected a sawmill at Brownsville (Alaska)
                1853 - Lyman Gerold is the first settler on the west bank of
                       the Thornapple River
