James White is Victim of Tragedy and Paul Wenchell Has Small Chance for Recovery. (Special to The Evening Press) Saginaw, July 5. - James White, aged thirty years, of Portland, Mich., met death in a balloon ascension at Caro yesterday afternoon. White had ascended about 100 feet when his balloon burst and his attempt to cut loose and descend in his parachute failed, as the balloon fell on the parachute. White was thrown downward about fifty feet and hit and electric transformer. breaking his neck, jaw and both legs. He died shortly afterward. A second accident of a similar nature occurred in Vassar, at almost the same hour, and as a result, Paul Wenchell, age thirty years of Grand Rapids is believed to be dying. Wenchell had ascended about four hundred feet when his balloon began to drop and his parachute failed to work when he attempted to clear away. Hie fell the remaining distances and is still unconscious with little chance of recovery. The name Paul Wenchell does not appear in the Grand Rapids city directory.
