Clarke, 72 a life long resident of Solon township and former operator of a resort at Olin lakes, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charles Zank, four miles west of Sand Lake on last Thursday afternoon. Mr. Clarke opened the Olin lake resort ten years ago and was active in that business u ntil a year ago when he retired and turned the resort business over to his son, Harvey Clarke of Grand Rapids. Adam J. Clarke was born at Battle Creek, Michigan February 10, 1859 and departed this life July 16, 1931 at the home of his daughter. He came to Cedar Springs with his parents in the summer of 1872 and has been a resident of Solon township ever since. He was united in marriage to May A. Kingsley of Ensley on July 2, 1884. To this union were born five children, two dying in infancy. He is survived by the widow and three children, Mrs. Henrietta Zank of Ensley, Harvey D. of Grand Rapids, and Harold of Lansing; eight grandchildren and one brother of Central Lake. Funeral services were held from the Hubbard funeral home in Cedar Springs at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, July 18, with Rev. E. R. Hill officiating. Two hymns, "One by One" and Abide With Me", were appropriately sung by Mrs. Carl Denton and Mrs. Howard Russell, accompanied by Mrs. Lydia Tower. Walter Hoag, John Noonan, Arthur Connon, Chas. Ferneau, Chas. Hoatlin, and Ed. Bloomfield acted as bearers. Interment was made at Elmwood cemetery. Paper unknown. dz
