A.G. GIRSBERGER DIES IN CHICAGO PROMINENT GRAND RAPIDS MASON FOUND OPERATION OF NO AVAIL. Was elected Past President of Past Masters Association, Masonic, Saturday Night. A. Gordon Girsberger, aged 35 years, prominent in Grand Rapids Masonic circles, died Saturday night in Chicago shortly after he underwent an operation for cancer. He lived at 15 Garfield Avenue, and is survived by a widow and five- year old daughter, Ruth, his mother and two sisters, Mrs. Goldie Partridge and Miss Ruth Girsberger. His mother and sisters residing in Portland, Ore. Not long ago, Mr. Girsberger received a slight injury to his breast. Little was thought of it at the time. Later it so troubled him that he consulted several physicians, and Dr. Louis Barth decided to operate. Upon making an incision, it was found that Mr. Girsberger was suffering from malignant cancer, and that no aid could be given him. His friends, however, refused to give up hope. In company with L.T. Herman, worshipful master of Malta Lodge, of which he was a charter member, Mr. Girsberger went last week to Chicago, where he underwent an operation Saturday, death following. Mr. Girsberger was connected with the Grand Rapids Plaster company, with offices in the Michigan Trust Building. He was born at Fisher station on the G.R. & I., and after finishing school took a business course at the Ferris Institute, Big Rapids. About seven years ago he took up his work with the Grand Rapids Plaster Company, having been connected with that concern since. Charter Member Malta Lodge Mr. Girsberger was past master of Grand Rapids Lodge, No. 84, F. &A.M., and upon organization of Malta lodge last June, became a charter member and the first secretary, transferring from Grand Rapids lodge. At the meeting of the Past Masters association Saturday night, as a mark of honor, precedent was cast aside and he was elected past president. Mr. Girsberger had resided in Grand Rapids about 16 years. He was a childhood playmate and life-long friend of John D. Karel. About seven years ago he was married to Miss Celia [Cecelia] Christenson [Christensen] of this city. His father died two years ago. Few men of his years leave so large a circle of friends as did Mr. Girsberger. Not only in Masonic circles was he popular, but he had the faculty of making friends in all walks of live. The body will arrive in this city at 6:20 o’clock this morning, and will be taken to the family residence, 15 Garfield Avenue. Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock tomorrow at the home.
