He passed away on March 30 of this year. (1929) When three years of age, his parents moved to Sparta Township and settled on the farm where he has since resided. When only 14 years of age and duing the Civil War, he carried amil alone on horseback from Grand Rapids to what is now known as Croton Dam. In early live Mr. Myers was engaged with his father in the lumber business having cut much of the timber in this locality. He also managed the camps for a number of years for the Samuel Cupples Woodenware Co. In 1868 he married Miss Betsy Robinson. Five children were born to this union, four of whom survived him, Mrs. Netta Pease and Mrs. Myrta Hicks of Grand Rapids, Mrs Tina Gain of Leland and Mrs. Belle Montgomery of East Sparta. There are 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. In 1882 having lost his first wife he was married to Miss Sophia Carson. Besides his widow, two childern of this later marriage, Don and Ziada, survive him. Mr. Myers was one of a family of 11 children. Three brothers Richard, Daniel and Eugene are still living. He was actively interested in the civic life of the community, having served his township as Highway Commissioner, Treas. And Supervisor. He was a member of Sparta Lodge No. 334 F & A M and Kent Charpeer No. 104 Royal Arch Masons and was actively engaged in lodge affairs until failing health prevented his attendance. Funeral services under Masonic auspices were held from the late home, Rev. J. Stevens officiating interment in Myers cemetery.
