Eugene Myers' obituary, Sparta Township, Kent County, Michigan SUBJECT: Eugene Myers's obituary SUBMITTER: Dennis Zank EMAIL: dennyz@a1access.net DATE: Apr 04, 1999 SURNAMES: Myers, Harkins, Procunier HEART AILMENT PROVES FATAL TO NATIVE CITIZEN Funeral Services Will Be Held In Sparta Friday Eugene Myers, one of the oldest residents and native of Sparta township, passed away unexpectedly, from a heart ailment, Monday night January 22, on his 88th birthday, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Isabelle Harkins, 1301 Cass Ave., S. E., Grand Rapids. Mr. Myers reposes in the Bettes Memorial Chapel, where funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30, with interment in the Myers cemetery, the Rev. G. R. Brown officiating. The last survivor of the family of eleven childern of Hiram and Barbara Myers, pioneer settlers of this community, who came here from Canada, he was born in 1857 on the Myers homestead in East Sparta township where he lived the greater part of his life. As a young man he spent much of his time working in the lumber woods of Michigan. Following his marriage to Miss Mina Pease, also of Sparta, he settled on a farm in Solon township, where he resided for many years. After the death of his wife, who passed away 43 years ago. Mr. Myers continued to maintain the home and devoted his life to bringing up their four children, Ernest, Zina(Pat), Isabelle and Edna. Since retiring from the farm several years ago, Mr. Myers had made his home in Sparta and with his children.
