Chester Stone's obituary, Rockford, Kent County, Michigan SUBMITTER: Denny Zank EMAIL: dennyzank@ameritech.net DATE: March 7, 2004 STONE (Rockford) Mr. Chester Stone, age 87, passed away early Thursday morning, April 24, 2003 at Spectrum Health-Butterworth Campus. Mr. Stone was retiree from the maintenance department of the City of Cedar Springs, retiring in 1980. Prior to that he worked at Wolverine World Wide for 16 years; and after that he owned and operated his own trucking company, moving produce. He was a man who with a handshake sealed the deal. When he went camping (which he loved to do), he would make sure to go out of his way to meet other campers and always came back to his campsite with a full mug of coffee. Many would notice his beautiful lawn and Mr. Stone on his garden tractor, cutting the grass at his home on Northland Drive. When he married his wife (they sort of eloped), he took his mother and a friend along as witnesses. This commitment to one another, the former Edith Bradley lasted nearly 68 years. Mr. Stone was preceded in death by his brothers, Ralph Stone and Albert Stone; his sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Van Drie and Mrs. Carolyn Miller. The service for Mr. Stone will be Saturday afternoon at 1:00 o'clock at the funeral home with Pastor Norman Byers of the Journey Church officiating. Interment in Courtland Twp. Cemetery. Those planning expressions of sympathy are asked to consider the Michigan Heart Association. Relatives and friends may greet Mr. Stone's family form 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 on Friday at the funeral Home.
