Stoddard, who had spent almost all of his 85 years in the vicinity of Cedar Springs. He was the son of pioneer Michigan parents, Charles and Betsy Simmons Stoddard, and was born Aug. 15, 1863 in Solon township. Mr. Stoddard had been in failing ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (Picture) This picture of Mr and mrs. Stoddard was taken on their 50th wedding anniversary in 1940 Health for more than a year and had been bedfast several weeks. He died at the home of his only child, Mrs. Clarence Ballard, in Courtland township, near Evans. He married Minnie I. Gauge in Cedar Springs April 6, 1890, and with the exception of about 5 years in Grand Rapids, they spent all of their married life here. Mr. Stoddard united with the Baptist Church in his youth and had always been an active member, and a Christian whose life was an example to others. He was a life deacon of the Babtist Church. He engaged in farming and in the building game. He was widely known in his younger life as a barn builder. Rev. H. O. Van Gilder, Jr. will conduct the funeral services this afternoon, Thursday, at Walshes Funeral Home at 2:30 and interment will be in Elmwood cemetery. Mr. Stoddard is survived by his wife and daughter; by a sister Mrs. Florence Bectel of Grand Rapids; 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Paper unknown Date 13 July 1948
