Theresa was the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Elyer) Neuman, who were German immigrants. Her husband, Joseph Jabez Wernette, was the son of John and Esther “Elizabeth” (Miller) Wernette, Canadian immigrants who settled in Ionia County, Michigan in 1866 and moved to Gaines Township in Kent County in 1873. Theresa and Joseph Jabez Wernette had one daughter, Marian Elizabeth Wernette, who married Edward Albert Rohloff. In 1913 Joseph married Florence “Flossie” Culbert (January 20, 1887 – November 17, 1957), daughter of Thomas W. and Mary E. (Patterson) Culbert. Joseph and Flossie had two daughters: Margaret Florence and Helen Jane Wernette. Joseph’s second wife Florence is buried in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Rapids.
