Mary Elizabeth (Patterson) Culbert (May 30, 1871 – September 28, 1931) was the 
wife of Thomas Walter Culbert (1860 – August 13, 1925).  Mary was the daughter 
of William and Margaret (Armstrom) Patterson, and Thomas was the son of Thomas 
and Emeline (Sutton) Culbert.  Thomas and Mary first married in Caro, Michigan 
on July 4, 1885.  They had five children:  Florence “Flossie”, Knesley, Edgar, 
Omer, Beatrice, and Lyle.  On June 22, 1909 they married for a second time in 
Bay City, Bay County, Michigan, where Thomas had his veterinary surgeon’s 
practice.

The inscription on Mary’s stone reads:
	
IN LOVING MEMORY
MOTHER
MARY ELIZABETH CULBERT
MAY 30, 1871 – SEPT. 28, 1931

Mary passed away suddenly while visiting her daughter Florence “Flossie” 
(Culbert) Wernette in Grand Rapids, and therefore was buried in the Restlawn 
Memorial Park Cemetery where her daughter Florence was later buried in 1957.  
Mary’s husband Thomas W. Culbert is buried in Brookside Cemetery, Fairgrove, 
Tuscola County, Michigan.
