(Wescoat) Jeans COPPER HARBOR ? Florence E. (Wescoat) Jens, 87, of Copper Harbor, peacefully passed away at Keweenaw Memorial Medical Center under Hospice Care on September 15, 2007. Florence was born on January 12, 1920, in Detroit, daughter of Clyde Harold and Serene D. (Terrien) Wescoat. She moved with her family to Houghton in 1927. Attending Eastern Michigan University, she graduated with a teaching degree in Elementary Education, teaching in the greater Lansing Schools for 32 years. Upon retiring, Florence spent her winters on Hilton Head Island, S.C. and her summers in Copper Harbor. Surviving is her daughter, Vera-Serene (Melvin V.) Evanoff of Copper Harbor; granddaughter, Michele L. (Christopher) Hakim and great-grandson, Ryan A. of Olathe, Kansas; nieces, Mary E. (Douglas) Kapnick and Sally A. Watson, both of Adrian, Mich.; nephew, Clyde Harold (Lloyd) Wescoat II of Copper Harbor; and numerous grandnieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Harold James Wescoat. Cremation has taken place under the care of the Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet. A memorial service will be held at a later date. The family suggests memorials to KMMC in Calumet, Keweenaw Home Nursing and Hospice or a charity of your choice in lieu of other expresions or sympathy.
