Beloved husband of the late Elaine; dear father of Diane Moskaluk, William T. 
Hassig, M.D. (Sharon), Cynthia Burt (David), Pamela Bearwolf (Gene), Dawn 
Panczner (Roger), Walter M. Hassig, M.D. (Jennifer Irwin, MD), and Marcia 
Eubanks; 19 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at First English Evangelical 
Lutheran Church, 800 Vernier Road, Grosse Pointe Woods, MI 48236. Memorial 
visitation begins at 10 a.m. Monday. 

Memorials to the Church Building Fund appreciated.

Elaine M. Wendt Hassig
ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. — Elaine M. Wendt Hassig, 81, of St. Clair Shores, 
Mich., went to live with our Heavenly Father on February 5, 2002.
Elaine was born on September 16, 1920 in Detroit. She was baptized and 
confirmed at Historic Trinity Lutheran Church in Detroit where she met Walter 
Wesson Hassig and later became his wife.
She was the Valedictorian of her graduating class at East Commerce High School 
in Detroit. Later, she obtained her Associates Degree from Wayne State 
University. 
She was predeceased by her parents, William and Meta Wendt; and her sister and 
brother-in-law, Norma and Bud Phillips.
The Hassigs have had a summer home in Copper Harbor for over 35 years. They 
continue to have many friends in that area.
She is remembered as having success in life regardless of her handicap, a 
strong faith, a love for Copper Harbor, compassion for those in need and 
recognition of the importance of music in one’s life.
Surviving are her husband, Walter W. Hassig, M.D.; her children, Diane E. 
(Daniel) Dossin, William T. (Sharon) Hassig, M.D., Cynthia J. (David) Burt, 
Pamela A. (Gene) Bearwolf, Dawn L. (Roger) Panzner, Walter M. Hassig, M.D. 
(Jennifer Irwin, M.D.), and Marcia L. (Keith) Eubanks; 19 grandchildren; five 
great-grandchildren; and a sister, Shirley Wendt, PhD.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First English 
Evangelical Lutheran Church, 800 Vernier Road, Grosse Pointe Woods (48236). 
Burial will be at the Copper Harbor Township Cemetery in the spring.
Memorials to the Church Building Fund would be appreciated.
