MacLeod of Baldwin Garage, and father-in-law of Judge Ray Trucks, passed away at 2:30 Monday morning at the age of 68, after an illness of several months. Death was due to ulcers of the stomach, in the belief of physicians who were unable to definitely diagnose his malady. Mr. MacLeod came here in 1922 and since then has been a familiar figure at the garage. He was known to motorists from many states who dropped in at the place for gas, oil or to submit their punctures and blowouts to his practiced hand. He continued in his work until last fall and since November he was unable to do any active work. For several weeks past he has been confined to his bed and despite the best of medical care, was unable to retain any food, and his vitality soon ebbed to a point where life could no longer be sustained. He had a splendid constitution, and his mind was clear up to the instant of his passing. Mr. MacLeod was born in Inverness Shire, Scotland, April 12, 1859. As a youth he emigrated to Canada and later crossed into the States, going to Wolverine, where he was employed by the Hawk Lumber Company as a filer. His trade was a molder, but he had a wide capacity for mechanical work and was an excellent workman. When his son Angus moved to Baldwin to engage in the garage business, his parents soon followed, their other children being married and in homes of their own. Since 1922 they have made their home here. Mrs. MacLeod survives him, also three daughters, Mrs. J. W. Haworth of Spokane, Mrs. Urban O’Connor of Bellingham, Wash., and Mrs. Ray Trucks of Baldwin. One son, Angus E. MacLeod, also survives, two brothers, Don, of Richmond, Mich. and Malcom, of Detroit, and one sister, Mrs. Mary Doonan, of Spokane. All his children were with him at the end. Funeral services were held in the Baldwin Congregational church at two o’clock Wednesday afternoon, and a large gathering of old friends was present to pay their last respects to his memory. The Rev. W. A. Alleyne delivered a comforting sermon and a brief prayer at the graveside in Pleasant Plains cemetery. There were many beautiful floral contributions. Mr. MacLeod was a splendid Scotch gentleman and will be greatly missed by those who came to know him well.
