Trucks, 78, died Jan.3 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Columbus. Mr. Trucks served as Baldwin Village President from 1947-1950, at which time he resigned to begin the first of three terms in the Michigan House of Representatives. Following his term in the House, he returned to Baldwin and once again served as it’s president. Mr. Trucks operated Ken’s Stake House in Baldwin for several years, and later incorporated the restaurant building into a redesigned, remodeled and expanded Pattie Drug Co. Mr. Trucks ad his wife, Mary Pattie Trucks, sold the drug store to their son David a year ago and retired to North Carolina. His complete obituary can be found on Page 2. Lake County Star [Baldwin, Michigan], 13 January 1983, page 2. Kenneth Owen Trucks, 78, husband of Mary Pattie trucks, died Monday afternoon, Jan. 3, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Columbus, N.C. Mr. Trucks was born in Scottville, the son of the late Porter and Sarah Kreigh Trucks. He was Baldwin Village President from 1847-1950. He resigned that year after being elected to the Michigan House of Representatives, where he served three terms. Using his experience in construction and plastering, Mr. Trucks bought and remodeled the old Green Front Restaurant and successfully operated Ken’s Steak Room for many years. Later, he re-designed, remodeled and expanded the Pattie Drug Co., incorporating the restaurant building. A year ago, Mr. and Mrs. Trucks sold the drug store to their son David of Reed City and retired to a home they purchased in North Carolina. They continued to maintain a summer home in Lake County. Mr. Trucks was a member of the Mason Lodge of Lakes 545, OES 494, VFW, Elks, a Shriner, charter member of the Baldwin Rotary, and the American Legion. He served as a Seabee in the South Pacific during World War II. Surviving are his wife, Marie Pattie Trucks of Route 1, Blanton Street, Columbus, N.C.; four sons, Kenneth Clare Trucks of Three Oaks, Roger O. Trucks of Midland, David Kenneth Trucks of Reed City, and Trent N. Trucks of Baldwin; four daughters, Mrs. Margot Hill of Niles, Mrs. Elizabeth E. Trucks-Tyron of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Alecia DeCou of Chase, and Mrs. Tennis Trucks-Flory of Marquette; two brothers, Fred R. Trucks of Saginaw and Max Trucks of St. Helen; 17 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Services were Thursday Jan. 6, at McFarland Funeral Home with the Rev. Fred Rhodes officiating. Burial was in Polk Memorial Gardens. Relatives attending from out-of-state include all eight children, nine grandchildren, a niece, Mrs. Norma Russell and her son Scott and his wife Debbie of Baldwin, and Mrs. Trucks’ brother and his wife, Donald and Mary Marguerite Pattie of Florida.
