Tripp jan_tripp@comcast.net March 11, 2005, 8:56 pm Lake County Star - 20 August 1954 - Page 1 Community Saddened By Passing of Ford Trucks The Baldwin community was saddened by the untimely death of Ford Trucks which occurred at the Veterans Hospital in Ann Arbor Monday morning., August 16, at 2:15. Mr. Trucks who was 39, had been ill for the past year. In March he went to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota for a complete physical check-up and remained their for observation. On his return he spend several weeks in Veterans hospital where he showed marked improvement. He returned to his home July 23, and re-entered the hospital a week ago. Death was attributed to a cerebral hemorrhage. Mrs. Trucks was called by the hospital on Friday morning and was flow to Ann Arbor my Ed Timm, accompanied by her brother, Les Johnson of Ludington. Born in Baldwin on June 27, 1915, Ford attended elementary school here and had the distinction of being the first Eagle Scout in Baldwin, belonging to the troop of which Fred Bradford was scoutmaster. He graduated with the class of 1833 and attended Kalamazoo College. He became associated with Roosevelt & Simarall Corporation at Mt. Pleasant for some time and then became a Flight Pilot Instructor with the Civil Aeronautics prior to World War II. After serving his country for the duration of the war, he established the Reed City Abstract Office which he operated until his death. He was a member of the Masonic Order and the Elks Lodge. He was married to Dorothy Johnson of LaGrange, Illinois on October 12, 1937 who survives him with his four sons, Jay 15, Lee, 13, Jon, 11, and Jeff, 2, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Trucks of Baldwin and three sisters, Mrs. Jack (Olga) McClellan of Salzburg, Austria, Mrs. Howard (Norma) Russell and Mrs. Kenneth (Beth) Tripp of Baldwin. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Baldwin Congregational Church with Rev. Orval Sampson of Hart, former pastor of the church, officiating. Pallbearers were, Robert Smith, Kurt Kahl, Jr., Glenn Brott, Edwin Connine and Carl Dykstra of Reed City. Interment was in Pleasant Plains cemetery. The church was filled to overflowing with flowers and friends and business places throughout Main street closed during the funeral out of respect to Mr. Trucks. Reed City places of business also closed during the services. Dill, Detroit, Martin Klien and Mr. and Mrs. Gerald McShane of Grand Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Preston, Mt. Pleasant, Mrs. Hazel Main, Midland, Mrs. Lela Trucks, Glenn Jr., and Don of Benton Harbor, Fred Trucks and daughter Berniece Smith, Saginaw, Mr. and Mrs. Max Trucks, Plymouth, Mr. and Mrs. George Wilson, Ludington, Lester Johnson, Ludington, and Mrs. George Lantz, Ludington, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Harmon, Cassapolis, Mr. and Mrs. Max Wood, St. Joseph, Joseph Sanders, Custer, Orville Sanders and Evelyn Rummer, Custer, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Cave, Flint, Pat O'Neil, Paris, and William Kline, Nirvana. From Reed city were Rex Johnson, Joseph Lynch, Elmer Sutliff, Mr. and Mrs. Burton Fleishaure, Burgess Humble, Donna Steig, who was employed by Mr. Trucks, Florence Peterson, a former employe and many more from Reed City.
