Baldwin's Oldest Resident Dies Friday at R.C. Ewald Thieman, Baldwin's oldest resident died Friday afternoon at Reed City hospital after an illness of several weeks. He was born at Balkins, Ohio on January 26, 1870. He came to Baldwin in 1912 with his wife and two daughters. Mr. and Mrs. Thieman established and operated the first ice cream parlor in Baldwin in the building where the Lobby Restaurant is now located. Later Mr. Thieman established a dry goods store and a shoe repair shop which he operated until his retirement. During his later years Mr. Thieman had made small wooden articles. He worked in his home shop until he became ill a few weeks ago. Mr. Thieman was a member of the Baldwin Congregational Church and the Lodge of the Lakes F and AM No. 545. He is survived by his wife, Adeline and one daughter Mrs. Clarence I. (Cleta) Drilling, five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. A daughter Lurline preceeded him in death in 1923. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 4 p.m. at church. Burial was in Pleasant Plains Cemetary. The body was brought to his home on Seventh Street on Sunday afternoon and reposed at the Congregational church from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Dwight Jackson.
