Baatz Died January 29, 1999 TRAVERSE CITY - Wilfred E. Baatz, 82, of Long Lake Township, Traverse City, died Friday evening surrounded by family at his home following an extended illness. He is survived by his wife, Mildred (Johnston) Baatz and sons, Wilfred J. Baatz and Dale F. (Toni) Baatz, all of Traverse City; son, Peter E. (Carla) of Interlochen; stepson, Allan H. (Christine) Bowen of Williamsburg; stepdaughter, Shirley Bowen of Traverse City; 23 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; many cousins; an aunt, of Manistee; and several nieces and nephews. Born on Oct. 15, 1916, in Northport, he was the son of John William and Eva (Marcham) Baatz, who preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Erickson; sons, Richard A. Baatz, Donald Baatz and an infant son, David Baatz. He was a member of the Lighthouse Church of God. Wilfred was a machinist for 30 years with Parsons Manufacturing Co., and was a roofer for many years with the Valley Siding and Roofing Co. He especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes, with the Rev. Jonathan Gray officiating. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will take place in the spring at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Empire.
