BARRETT, 90, died on Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at Grand Traverse Pavilions in Traverse City. A full obituary will appear in a later edition of the Record-Eagle. Arrangements are pending with the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. ---------------------------------------- TRAVERSE CITY RECORD EAGLE --- 28 Apr. 2004 GLEN ARBOR - A memorial service will be held in June for Colonel Thomas J. Barrett of Glen Arbor, who passed away April 21, 2004, at The Grand Traverse Pavilions in Traverse City. He was born June 13, 1913, in Kenton, Ohio, to Harry and Grace Barrett. On Jan. 4, 1941, near Selfridge Air Force Base, he married Marjorie Balk, who survives. After graduating from Ohio State University in 1934, Tom began his 30- year service with the U. S. Air Force as a pilot, air base commander and commandant of ROTC. He flew on numerous missions, defended the Panama Canal Zone during World War II, was stationed in Japan during the post-war era and also spent four years at the Pentagon. Tom and his family built a summer home on Glen Lake in 1954 and moved there permanently in 1962. Along with Marjorie, his wife and co-pilot of 63 years, surviving are his children, Thomas J. (Diane) Barrett Jr. of Denver, Colo., and Linda B. (Thomas) Pouncey of Empire, and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, father and three sisters.
