Fradd b. 1920 d. 2003 ------------------------------------ October 3, 2003 Obituaries ARCADIA - John "BJ" Liesenfelt, 55, of Arcadia, passed away suddenly Sept. 8, 2003. BJ is survived by his wife, Patti Liesenfelt of Arcadia; and his sister, Jan Groner of Lansing. BJ graduated from Western Michigan University with a bachelor of science degree. He loved to speak in front of a crowd. BJ taught automotive computer classes for Snap On Tools and for his own training company, Auto Masters Institute, in Australia, New Zealand and Michigan. A celebration of life was held at BJ and Patti's home. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. BEULAH - Barbara Jeanne Volas, 58, of Beulah, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, at Munson Medical Center. Born Jan. 16, 1945, in St. Louis, Mo., she was the daughter of George and Mildred (Steck) Cassor. Barbara married Peter J. Volas on Jan. 22, 1966, in St. Louis. Barbara resided in Beulah since 1984, moving from St. Louis. She enjoyed knitting and was an avid bridge player. She especially enjoyed working in her greenhouse, "Garden of Eden Hill" with her husband. Barbara is survived by her father, George Cassor and sister, Maryland Fontana. Along with her husband, Peter, she is also survived by her sons, Christopher M. Volas, Stephen M. Volas and fiance Venice Thirlby, all of Beulah, and Timothy M. Volas and fiance Karen Bailey and their son and Barbara's precious grandson, Casper Volas of Traverse City; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann (John) Davisson and Ginny (Paul) Stackle, all of St. Louis, Mo., and Patti (Phil) Rose of Lincoln, Neb. Barbara was preceded in death by her mother. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, Oct. 5, from 1 to 5 p.m., at the Volas family home, 2034 Eden Hill Rd., Beulah. In remembrance of Barbara, memorials may be directed to the family. Arrangements are by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. EMPIRE - Robert "Bob" Fradd, 83, a lifelong resident of Empire, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, at Munson Medical Center. Born April 26, 1920, he was the son of Frank and Alice (Moran) Fradd. On Nov. 27, 1948, in Traverse City, he married the former Dorothy Sanford. Bob served his country honorably with the United States Navy during World War II on the USS Richmond in both the north Pacific and south Pacific as a radar operator. He later became a builder, serving the Empire and Glen Lake areas for 40 years. Bob enjoyed playing baseball on the county league and received much satisfaction from restoring and driving his antique cars. Bob will be greatly missed and is survived by Dorothy, his wife of 55 devoted years; his children, Donna (Tom) Cobb and Frances (John) Hudson, and a grandson, Jonathan Hudson, all of Grand Rapids. Also surviving is his brother, Donald (Dorothy) Fradd of Empire; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. At Bob's request, cremation has taken place. Private memorial services will be held at a later date. In remembrance, memorial contributions may be directed to the Empire Fire Department or the Empire Museum.
