 EMPIRE - Dorothy Muriel Lewis, 88, of Empire, formerly of Midland, died Monday 
evening, Aug. 16, 2004, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
      Born Jan. 13, 1916, in Ludington, she was the daughter of the late John 
and Emma (Sturmer) Goodshaw. 
      Together with her husband and best friend, Allen, they enjoyed their 
family, friends, fishing, card playing, and sharing their many wonderful years 
together. Dorothy will be fondly remembered as a wonderful hostess, overseeing 
many family gatherings, and as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, 
and great-grandmother. Her grandchildren will especially remember her "special" 
chocolate chip cookies.
      Survivors include her three children, Peter (Barbara) Lewis of Empire and 
Midland, Martha (Bud) Acton of Troy, Steven (Linda) Lewis of Empire; eight 
grandchildren, Chad Lewis, Chip Lewis, Craig Lewis, Alacia Bufalini, Lindsay 
Acton, Stephanie Stanton, Sandra Lewis and Kira Salem; six great-grandchildren; 
a brother, Ernest Goodshaw of Midland; and many nieces and nephews.
      Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Allen B. Lewis, who died in 
1991; and ten brothers and sisters.
      Private memorial services will be held. Burial will be in Empire Maple 
Grove Cemetery in Empire, following cremation.
      In remembrance of Dorothy, memorials may be directed to the Empire 
Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 184, Empire, MI 49630.
      Arrangements are by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth Street, 
Traverse City, MI 49684.
