Born July 29, 1915, in Toledo, Ohio, he was the son of George and Edith (Emerson) Lober. On Jan. 6, 1933, in Ohio, he married Eleanor L. Krull; they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this year. Joseph had formerly lived in Toledo, Ohio, where he had been employed at the Champion Spark Plug Co. as an engineer and manager of research and development. A resident of Glen Arbor since 1978, Joseph was a member of Glen Lake Community Reformed Church, the Empire Masonic Lodge No. 597, the Traverse City Shriners, the Empire Noontiders and served on the board of directors for Leelanau County Sharecare. He also enjoyed boating and reading. Survivors include his wife, Eleanor L. (Krull) Lober of Glen Arbor; three sons, John P. (Julie) Lober of Traverse City, Robert J. (Judy) Lober of Traverse City, and Michael J. Lober of Glen Arbor; a son-in-law, David P. Dye of Traverse City; a brother, George Lober Jr. of Phoenix and Toledo, Ohio; seven granddaughters, Christine (Jack) Rader of Birch Run, Michelle (Paul) Binsfeld of Empire, Lisa (Mark) Ashley of Petoskey, Wendy (Dave) Roelofs of Lake Ann, Myra (Peter) Zyburt of Marquette, Ginny (Jim) Conricode of Bothell, Wash., and Anne (Jerry) Lafayette of Chicago; and two grandsons, Michael J. Lober of Traverse City and Joseph V. Lober of Holland. Joseph is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren, Michelle, Nicole, and Paul Rader of Birch Run; Allison and Stefanie Roelofs of Lake Ann; Willow Ashley of Petoskey; Sarah, Samuel, and Paul Zyburt of Marquette; Perry and Claire Conricode of Bothell, Wash.; and Michael and Katie Wilson of Chicago. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, George and Edith Lober; a daughter, Beverly Dye; and two sisters, Mary Myers and Edith Cope. Friends may visit one hour prior to funeral services which will be held at 1 p.m. today at Glen Lake Community Reformed Church in Glen Lake; the Rev. Stephen Wing will officiate. Formerly of Toledo, she had been a resident of Glen Arbor since 1978. Eleanor was a 1931 graduate of Scott High School and a long time member of the Augsburg Lutheran Church in Toledo. She was a member of the Ladies' Oriental Shrine of North America, Dendarah Court #10, also in Toledo. In Glen Arbor, Eleanor was a member of the Glen Lake Community Reformed Church, the Glen Lake Garden Club, the Glen Lake Women's Club, and the Glen Arbor Women's Club. Eleanor was a seamstress and also enjoyed knitting, reading, gardening, and baking. She loved the Glen Arbor area and was especially proud of the fact that she spent every summer of her life on Glen Lake. Born March 6, 1913, in Toledo, she was the daughter of Christian P. and Louise (Peppler) Krull. On Jan. 6, 1933, in Toledo, she married Joseph Earl Lober, who preceded her in death on Jan. 30, 1999. Survivors include three sons, John P. Lober and Robert J. (Judith) Lober, all of Traverse City and Michael Lober of Glen Arbor; grandchildren, Christine (Jack) Rader of Birch Run, Michelle (Bill) Honer of Traverse City, Lisa (Mark) Ashley of Petoskey, Joe (Teya) Lober of Grand Rapids, Wendy (David) Roelofs of Lake Ann, Michael (Julie) Lober of Traverse City, Myra (Peter) Zyburt of Marquette, Ginny (Jim) Conricode of Bothell, Wash. and Anne (Jerry) Lafayette of Bartlett, Ill.; great-grandchildren, Michelle (Jeremy) Zamora of Frankenmuth, Nicole (Justin) Kelenske of Cedar, Paul Rader of Kalamazoo, Allison, Stefanie, and Abbey Roelofs, all of Lake Ann, Benjamin Lober of Traverse City, Willow, A. J., and Owen Ashley, all of Petoskey, Sarah, Samuel and Paul Zyburt, all of Marquette, Perry and Claire Conricode, both of Bothell, Wash., and Michael and Katie Wilson, both of Chicago; great-great-grandson, Logan Zamora; and son-in-law, David P. (Sally) Dye of Traverse City. Along with her husband, Joseph, Eleanor was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Dye in 1985; sister, Ruth Stewart; brother, Philip Krull; and a daughter-in-law, Julie Lober in 2000. Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City today, Sept. 3, 2004, from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Glen Lake Community Reformed Church on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004, at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to the services.
