Alan was born in Detroit, Mich., July 28, 1946, the son of Elmer and Mae (McRae) McDaid. He married Shirley Chadwick in Detroit, Dec. 21, 1967. Mr. McDaid coached swimming his entire teaching career. He started coaching at the YMCA, then moved to Adrian High School to lead the girls swim team and later the boys. Alan assisted many people in computer technology and challenges for many local businesses, teaching peers and friends. He was an instructor and counseled at Vo-Tech for 32 1/2 years. Alan loved spending time with his family and was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Surviving Alan are his wife, Shirley; sons, Scott Cameron and wife Melinda "Mindy" Jane McDaid of Kalamazoo, Kevin Alan and wife Margaret "Peggy" Elizabeth McDaid of Berkley; grandchildren, Christopher Cameron and Megan Jane; sister, Janice and husband Peter Quinton of Maryland; and faithful companion, Murphy. His parents preceded him in death. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor John Guthrie officiating. A gathering for family and friends will take place on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Braun Everiss Wagley Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Adrian High School Swimming Scholarship Fund or Lenawee County Education Foundation (Alan McDaid VoTech CIS Scholarship Fund).
