Stormer Died July 21, 1999 THONOTOSASSA, Fla. - Floyd L. Stormer, 72, a descendent of the first settlers of the Grand Traverse region, died Wednesday after a long battle with cancer. Born Jan 28, 1927, in Empire, he was the son of John and Shirley Ethel (Sattler) Stormer. Floyd graduated from Empire High School and served in the U.S. Navy Pacific Theater in World War II. After the war, he joined the U.S. Coast Guard and retired in 1966 after 23 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Esther V. Stormer; son, Rex Zane Stormer of Blowing Rock, N.C.; and four brothers, Dale (Ruth) of N. Ft. Myers, Fla, Kenneth (Wanda) of Lake Ann, Donald (Pauline) of Carolina Beach, N.C. and David (Patricia) of Bellefonte, Pa. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Yvonne Carol (Burns) Stormer. Burial will be in the Veterans Cemetery in Salisbury, N.C. with full military honors.
