Welch, 98, of Empire, died Oct. 11; Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, Traverse City. ---------------------------------- TRAVERSE CITY RECORD EAGLE - 13 Oct. 2004 Raymond H. Welch Died October 11, 2004 EMPIRE - Raymond H. Welch, 98, of Empire, died Monday morning, Oct. 11, 2004, at Munson Medical Center. Born May 23, 1906, in Empire, he was the son of the late John T. and Mary A. (Shauger) Welch. Ray spent most of his life in the Empire area, where he worked as a farmer and in the lumbering business. He also served as caretaker for Pierce Stocking Enterprises, where he received much pleasure in developing and maintaining flower gardens. He was a member of the Empire Heritage Group and a former member of the I.O.O.F. #255 in Maple City. Ray is survived by two sisters, Dorothy A. Tietz of Empire and Ethel Longcore of Traverse City; a number of nieces and nephews; and many dear friends whom he fully enjoyed. He was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters. At his request, cremation has taken place and no formal services are planned. The Welch family was served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home of Traverse City.
