Tobin Sr., 84, of Maple City, died surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. He was born Sept. 17, 1920, in Maple City, the son of Phillip and Nellie Mae (Westcott) Tobin. On May 26, 1962, in Grand Rapids, he married the former Beverly Jean Harig. Frank retired from Pridgeon and Clay Machine Shop in 1975. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and shuffleboard. Frank was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army; he received a Purple Heart and a Silver Star. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Empire. Frank is survived by his wife of 42 years, Beverly Tobin of Maple City; three daughters, Dayia Tobin of Colorado, Cynthia (Mark) Empire of Grand Rapids and Linda (John) Biek of Wyoming, Mich.; six sons, Frank (Gayle Egeler) Tobin Jr. of Maple City, Tim (Becky Crowley) Tobin of Wyoming, Mich., Brian (Charlene) Tobin of Maple City, Shannon (Cyndi Schopieray) Tobin of Hesperia, Allen (Donna) Workman of Grandville and Don Heinrich of Michigan; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Phillip (Isabelle) Tobin of Grand Rapids; a sister, Marge Yararis of New York; his mother-in-law, Marion Harig of Freeport; a brother-in-law, Earl (Sharon) Harig of Freeport; and two sisters-in-law, Joan (John) Hoelsema of Grandville and Carol (Ed) Smith of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Ethel Whitten, Nellie Drew and Jessie Wepking. Visitation will take place today, Nov. 2, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, at the funeral home, with additional visitation from 11 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Empire.
