Born Oct. 7, 1926, in Lyndhurst, N.J., she was the daughter of Alfred and Freida (Tegmeir) Hodges. On May 23, 1946, in Clinton, N.J., she married Jack Bolton. A homemaker, Claire was a resident of Empire much of her adult life. An avid gardener, she was very knowledgeable about flowers and especially loved her irises. Claire also had a passion for reading. Survivors include her husband, Jack of Empire; two children, John (SunOk) Bolton of West Milford, N.J., and Daniel Bolton of Empire; and two grandchildren, James and Thomas. Claire was preceded in death by her parents. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. Visitation will also be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Empire United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow visitation at 11 a.m.; Pastor William McDonald will officiate. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery in the spring. Memorial contributions may be directed to Empire United Methodist Church or to Empire Fire and Rescue Squad.
