      EMPIRE - Ellen R. Bronson, 82, of Empire, died Tuesday at Maple Valley 
Nursing Home in Maple City.
      Born May 31, 1919, in Leelanau County, she was the daughter of George and 
Lottie (Payne) Zeigler.
      Ellen was formerly employed at Dunn's Resort in Glen Lake and retired as 
a cook for the Glen Lake Community Schools after many years. She also attended 
Empire United Methodist Church.
      Ellen is survived by her son, Percy R. (Navada) Bronson of Camden, S.C.; 
five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
      She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Percy R. Bronson; 
daughter, Mary Bronson; and son, George Bronson.
      Visitation will be at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City 
on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
      Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Friday at 1 p.m. with the 
Elder Conley Addington officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in the 
spring.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to the Empire Area Museum, or to 
Old Settlers Picnic Association.
