Plowman - Died January 4, 2000 EMPIRE - Earl C. Plowman, 78, of Empire, died Tuesday at his home. Born Oct. 13, 1921, in South Haven, he was the son of Chris and Maude (Davis) Plowman. On May 22, 1948, in Traverse City, he married Esther A. Roush, who survives. Earl was a 1939 graduate of Empire High School. He served with the U.S. Army Seabees during World War II in the Pacific. He was a member of the American Legion Post 199 in Maple City, Empire Masonic Lodge No. 597 F&AM. Earl also volunteered at the Empire Museum. He is survived by three children, Richard (Angela) Plowman of Empire, Janice (David) French of Bangor and Christine Plowman of Brooklyn; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Alan) Berish of Lansing, Julie (Shawn) Spencer of Denver, Jason and Jacquelyn Plowman of Empire and Marcus and Adam French of Bangor; and one great-grandson, Matthew Spencer. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Graveside memorial services will be held in the spring at Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Empire Museum or a charity of one's choice. The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home of Traverse City.
