Born July 12, 1918, in South Bend, Ind., and raised in Chicago, he was the son of Joseph S. and Eva F. (Travenski) Seymour. Joseph married Irma Lillian Noonan in 1943, and she preceded him in death in October 1961, after 18 years of marriage. He married Marjorie Jean Schmidt in 1967, and she preceded him in death in March 1983. While in high school, Joseph became very involved with the model aviation business, designing kits for Cleveland, Lindberg and several other companies. He later worked in the U.S. Patent office. While enrolled in the St. Louis School of Aeronautics for three years, he was assigned to war production design at the start of World War II. Joseph had also been employed as both an architect and professional photographer. He had many hobbies, of which photography was his favorite. He met his wife, Irma, while working at Republic Drill and Tool as an Engineer in 1943, and they moved to the Maple City area in 1954. He then became employed at Cone Drive Gears until his retirement in 1982. Joseph was a member of the Maple City Community Church. He loved the Lord Jesus Christ with all his heart and it was the foundation of his life. Survivors include his daughter, Robin Jo (John) Lambkin of Grand Rapids, Daniel Keith Seymour of Santa Barbara, Calif., and John Christian (Cherylyn) Seymour of Torrance, Calif.; three step-children, John Schmidt of Ayr, Ontario, Canada, William Schmidt of Vancouver, B.C., Canada, and Inez Schmidt of Portland, Ore.; four grandchildren, Gabriel Schlosser, Annie Marie Burritt, Holland Taylor Seymour and John Christian Seymour Jr. Along with his wife, Irma, and wife, Marjorie, Joseph was also preceded in death by one step-son, Thomas Schmidt, who died in the summer of 1973 shortly before he was to attend college. Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City on Friday, Nov. 28, from 4 to 8 p.m. Services will be held at the Maple City Community Church in Maple City on Saturday, Nov. 29, at 1 p.m. Pastor Carroll Sattler will officiate. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Maple City. In remembrance of Joseph, memorial contributions may be directed to the Maple City Community Church.
