Born Oct. 31, 1920, in Bendon, she was the daughter of John and Mary Agnes (Halk) Lanham. On Sept. 5, 1946, in Traverse City, she married William K. Tibbitts, who survives. A lifelong resident of the Glen Lake and Traverse City area, Esther was a graduate of Empire High School. She graduated with a degree as a registered nurse from the Traverse City State Hospital School of Nursing, in 1945, where she served as secretary for the nursing alumni. She later worked at the Tri- county Health Department as well as stoma therapist for Munson Medical Center. Esther was instrumental in starting the Northern District Ostomy Association in Traverse City. She was a member of the First Christian Church, where she served as president and secretary of the Christian Women's Fellowship. Esther was also a member of the community church in Lanark Village, Fla., where she served as secretary of the Women's Fellowship. She was the past secretary of the Lanark Village Golf Course. Esther enjoyed golfing, knitting, crocheting, traveling and especially spending time with her family. Along with her husband of 58 devoted years, William, Esther is survived by two daughters, Sandra (Al) Davis of Jenison and Patricia Tibbitts and her friend, Elmond Hamilton of Thompsonville; four grandchildren, Brian S. Davis, Craig A. Davis, David A. Geroy and Ann M. Taghon; three great-granddaughters; three great-grandsons; brother, John (Nancy) Lanham; sisters, Dorothy E. Lanham and Margaret Harden; brother-in-law, Harry Fitzpatrick; and sister-in-law, Dorothy "Dottie" Lanham. Esther was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Carl and Fred Lanham; and sister, Evelyn Fitzpatrick. Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City on Sunday evening, Sept. 19, 2004, from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. David L. Stout officiating. After cremation, burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Kasson Township. Memorial contributions may directed to the First Christian Church.
