EMPIRE — William Arthur Zeigler, 84, of Empire, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006, at his home. Bill was born in Solon Township on Aug. 16, 1922, the son of George and Lottie (Payne) Zeigler. He married his wife Jean in Cornwall, England, on Oct. 10, 1945, a marriage that spanned 61 years. Bill was a farm manager, working in the cherry and apple orchards. He thoroughly enjoyed working the soil, especially in his own gardens of flowers and vegetables. Bill loved being in the out-of-doors, watching birds and taking rides through the countryside. His hobby found him digging up old bottles, collecting old items and making the garage sale circuit. Bill was proud to have served with the U. S. Army as an engineer during World War II, in the European Theatre, doing his part to defend the freedoms we enjoy today. Bill is survived by his wife, Jean; sons, Ernest G. (Barb) Zeigler of Maple City, David M. (Jeannie) Zeigler of Empire; daughter, Susan Zeigler of Empire, and her fiancĂ©, Michael Duncan; grandchildren, Chad (Heidi) Zeigler, currently serving with the U. S. Air Force, Holly (Otis) Kortz, Adam Zeigler, Ben (Amber) Zeigler, currently serving with the U. S. Marine Corps, Emily (David) Tyrrell, Sara Zeigler, Christina Zeigler; great-grandchildren, Otto, Taylor and Ruby, and one great-grandchild to arrive soon. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; sons, William A. "Billy" Zeigler Jr., Cyril Zeigler; and sisters, Ellen and Marion. Visitation will take place at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home this evening, Nov. 20, from 6 until 8 p.m. Funeral services will take place at the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21. The Rev. Barbara Hoig, Hospice Chaplain will officiate. Following cremation, burial will take place in Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Bill's memory may be directed to Munson Hospice.
