He was born in Lake Leelanau on Sept. 4, 1954, the son of Robert and Rose (O'Brien) Schaub. On June 27, 1981, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lake Leelanau, he married Gail Bernadette Powers. Simon was a loving husband and father. He was an adjunct math instructor at Muskegon Community College. Simon is survived by his wife, Gail; two children, Simon and Ariel; parents, Robert and Rose Schaub of Lake Leelanau; mother-in-law, Edna M. Powers of Mancelona; six brothers, Robert (Linda) Schaub, Philip (Mary) Schaub, James (Rosanne) Schaub, Loren Schaub, Douglas (Brenda) Schaub and Christopher (Andrea) Schaub; three sisters, Madonna (Bobby) Jackson, Linda (Daniel) Priest and Josephine (Dale) Lingaur; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great- nephews. Preceding Simon in death were his grandparents. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Monday, July 28, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lake Leelanau, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at Martinson Funeral Home in Suttons Bay, with a wake service at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the children's college education fund. Arrangements by Martinson Funeral Home, Suttons Bay. GOODYEAR, Ariz. - Margaret M. Coleman, 81, of Goodyear, Ariz., passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2003. Margaret is survived by her loving husband of over 53 years, Harold B. Coleman; two daughters, Patricia Coleman and Jayne Coleman Johnson and husband, Michael Johnson; a son, William H. Coleman; four grandchildren, Erica Coleman, Alex Coleman, Stefanie Johnson and Robyn Johnson. Memorial services were held on July 19, 2003, at the Pebble Creek community where Margaret resided with her husband, Harold. A local memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. today, July 25, at First Presbyterian Church in Elk Rapids, 404 Spruce St. Graveside services will immediately follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Traverse City. TRAVERSE CITY - Erma E. Girard, 94, of Traverse City, died Wednesday morning at Bortz Health Care of Traverse City, in the company of her loving family. Erma fought a good fight against the debilitating effects of a stroke. Born April 19, 1909, in Wyandotte, she was the daughter of Alvin and Emma (Ziesmer) Unger. Erma was one of eight children and grew up working on the family farm. In 1932, she married Carl Wenzel. After four years of marriage, Carl died in 1935. In 1939, Erma married Lawrence Girard and the two were happily married for 63 years. Erma was a happy, joyous person who enjoyed nothing better than taking part in a breakfast table conversation. She was an avid gardener, golfer, bowler, euchre player and cook. Erma also loved to travel; but most of all, she enjoyed being with her family at the family cottage in Bay Port. For many years, Erma served as chief cook for the family duck camp, and over the years became well known for all the meals she served the family duck hunters. Erma and Lawrence lived in Lincoln Park from 1939 to 1999. During this time, Erma was busy raising three sons, working primarily as a seamstress, and running the family home. In 1999, Erma and Lawrence moved to Traverse City to be close to their sons and their families. Erma was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was blessed with a deep and undying faith in God. This faith she imparted to her entire family. Survivors include her sons, David (Patricia) Wenzel, Clifford (Susan) Girard and Renne (Lynette) Girard; 11 grandchildren and four great- grandchildren. Erma was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, in 2003; her parents and three sisters. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Tuesday, July 29, at 3:30 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Paul Zimmerman will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church. The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. LAKE ANN - Eileen W. Willson, 79, of Pearl Lake, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at Munson Medical Center. Eileen was born Dec. 31, 1923, in Detroit, the daughter of Claude Isaac and Etha Hazel (Cooper) Clawson. Eileen spent most of her adult life in Berkley and Royal Oak, but had summered in her beloved Pearl Lake area her entire life. Eileen was an elementary school teacher and retired from Madison Heights Public Schools. She was a member of the Retired School Personnel. Eileen enjoyed boating, reading and rug hooking, but especially enjoyed time with and caring for her family. Eileen is survived by her husband, Philip J. Willson, whom she married in Detroit on Aug. 13, 1976; by her children, Susan Ei and her husband Paul Zalon of Southport, Conn., David Ei and his wife Katherine Beck-Ei of Whitmore Lake, Philip Willson and his wife Kay Willson of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Ellen Willson and her husband Robert Masta of Ann Arbor, and Carol and her husband William DeJong of Perrysburg, Ohio; six grandchildren, Jennifer and her husband Ken Froese, Benjamin Willson, Karen DeJong, Paul DeJong, Lily Zalon and Annie Zalon; and a brother, Richard and his wife Shirley Clawson of Allen Park. Eileen's first husband, Raymond Denis Ei, died Oct. 30, 1960. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 26, at the Reynolds- Jonkhoff Funeral Home, with the Rev. TRAVERSE CITY - Shirley L. Bergsten, 94, of Traverse City, formerly of Empire, died Thursday morning at Tendercare of Traverse City. Born June 8, 1909, in Empire, she was the daughter of Frank and Sophie (Albright) Denny. A lifelong resident of Empire, Shirley was a member and active participant of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church and the Ladies Guild. As a homemaker, she thoroughly enjoyed gardening and cooking for her family and many friends. Survivors include her two sons, John (Dorothy) Tobin of Honor and Donald Tobin of Traverse City; two daughters, Norma J. (David) Marmie and Loretta Tobin, all of Traverse City; two sisters, June (Paul) Kraus of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Lila Bishop of Elberta; 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews. Shirley was preceded in death by her husbands, Rudolph W. Bergsten and Harold Tobin; a daughter, Judy Tobin; three brothers, Clifford, Minor and Otto Denny; and grandson, Clint Emert. Friends may call at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church on Sunday evening, July 27, from 5 to 8 p.m., where a rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at the church on Monday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. William Lipscomb serving as celebrant. Burial will follow the service in St. Philip Neri Catholic Cemetery. In remembrance, memorials may be directed to Mass intentions or the charity of one's choice.
