     Gerrie Deering
      Died September 25, 2000
      EMPIRE - Gerrie Deering, 51, of Empire, died Monday at home.
      Born July 22, 1949, in Indonesia, she was the daughter of Lane and Katie 
(Wielaert) VanDuivenbooden. On Dec. 18, 1970, at St. Philip Neri Catholic 
Church, she married Phil Deering.
      Gerrie was formerly from Elkhart, Ind. She was a member of St. Philip 
Neri Catholic Church in Empire and she enjoyed flower gardening. The highlight 
of her last year was ski diving.
      She is survived by her husband; daughter, Kim Deering of Chicago; son, 
Ryan Deering of Empire; her mother, Katie (E.A.) Phillips of Elkhart, Ind.; 
sisters, Maryka (Jerry) Campbell of Elkhart, Ind., Inge (Richard) Bonfoey of 
Three Rivers and Eveyln (Brian) James of Elkhart, Ind.; and many nieces and 
nephews.
      She was preceded in death by her father.
      Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at St. Philip Neri Catholic 
Church in Empire, where a rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today. A funeral 
Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church with Father Chad 
Zielinski serving as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Philip Neri Catholic 
Cemetery.
      Memorials may be directed to the Empire Fire Department.
