JASIN, 97, of Traverse City, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2005, at the Grand Traverse Pavilions. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. ----------------------------------------- TRAVERSE CITY RECORD EAGLE - 24 May 2005 Sara Louise Taghon Jasin Died May 22, 2005 EMPIRE - Sara Louise Taghon Jasin, 97, of Empire, beloved sister, aunt and friend, passed into eternal life Sunday, May 22, 2005, at the Grand Traverse Pavilions. Born Sept. 11, 1907, she was the daughter of Charles and Louise (Steyaert) Taghon. She was a lifelong Empire resident. Sara was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, and there she married the love of her life, Bernard Jasin, on July 11, 1949. Many Leelanau County residents knew Sara, as she worked and managed Empire National Bank for 35 years. She also enjoyed dancing, entertaining, Lake Michigan, volunteering at the Empire Museum, and her family and friends. Her sister, Suzanne Plamondon of Lake Leelanau; cousins, Sarah Schmidt and Julia Norconk of Empire; many nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and great-nephews, survive Sara. Her parents; her husband, Bud; her sister, Celeste Dhuyvetter and her husband Joseph; her brothers, Arthur and his wife Evelyn, Fred and his wife Reva; brother-in-law, Ralph "Dick" Plamondon; and a niece, Joyce Taghon Kozal; preceded her in death. Visitation will take place this evening, May 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Empire, where the rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 25, at the church, with visitation one hour prior to the funeral. The Rev. Larry Sergott will be officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery following the funeral. Memorials may be directed to the Empire Museum or to St. Philip Neri Catholic Church.
