Malinczak Died March 11, 2002 MAPLE CITY - Ann B. Malinczak, 88, of Maple City and Clinton Township, died Monday morning at Munson Medical Center, after bravely battling pancreatic cancer for more than a year. Born Nov. 26, 1913, in Scranton, Pa., the daughter of Adam and Theodora (Novak) Karash, Ann later moved to Michigan with her family. She worked as a nanny as a teen, and later worked in retail in New York and as a cocktail waitress in Florida before World War II. During the war, she helped the national effort as a riveter on aircraft production lines. She retired in 1977 after more than 25 years with Parke-Davis Pharmaceutical Company, where she was a lab technician at the Detroit and Parkedale, Rochester, Mich. facilities. She spent her retirement years enjoying family, friends and traveling. She and her sisters cruised extensively, traveled to Europe, and to destinations across the country. She also traveled with her daughter and her family, as well as friends from the senior clubs she enjoyed so much. She was a member of St. Gertrude's Seniors and the St. Clair Shores Senior Cruisers, both in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. She was a founding member of St. Isaac Jogues Parish in St. Clair Shores, and more recently in San Francisco Parish in Clinton Township. Ann had been an active member and patient advocate on the Family Council of Father Murray's Nursing Home in Warren. Ann was well known for her quick smile, love of adventure, terrific sense of humor, and unbounded generosity. She will be remembered as a loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Theodora and Robert House of Maple City; her sister, Sophia Abratowski of Washington, Mich.; her nieces, Greta Craner of Washington, Mich., Andrea (David) Dilisio of Rochester Hills; and many other nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Ann was preceded in death by her grandson, David House; her parents; her brothers, Henry, Michael, Leo, Frank and Alex; and by her sister, Mary Matthews. Visitation will take place on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home with a Scripture Service at 7:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Empire with the Rev. Fr. Chad Zielinski serving as celebrant. Burial will be near her grandson in St. Philip Neri Catholic Church Cemetery in Empire. In addition to the services at St. Philip, a memorial service in the Detroit area is tentatively planned for family and friends at a later date in the spring. In remembrance, memorial contributions may be directed to the 4-H of Leelanau County in memory of her grandson of whom she was so proud.
