Friday, August 6, 1890 Mrs. Rowena Purdy, one of the pioneers of Michigan, died at the residence of her son, Charles in Palmyra on the old homestead, Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Purdy was born in the town of Plainield, Cheser County, Vt. on November 7, 1811; was married to Andrew Purdy in the State of New York in 1828; came to Michigan in 1843 settling on the farm where she died and where her husband died 15 years ago, after being blind some 40 years. Mrs. Purdy's death was hastened by a cancer in the face with which she had been afflicted some 25 years. For the past 10 or 12 years she had been a great sufferer, but bore it all with a patience becoming her faith. She had been a member of the M. E. church almost 50 years. She was the mother of 11 children, only 5 of whom survive her. The funeral services were conducted at the house Tuesday, and which were largely attended. Friday, September 11, 1890 Last week we recorded thee death of Mrs. Francis Beamer, and now we are called upon to note another sad death in the same family, being that of Miss Elva Beamer, who died yesterday morning at 5 o'clock of the same illness, typhoid fever. She was born October 6, 1874, and was a young lady whose amiable character and kind disposition had won for her a host of friends who deeply deplore her death. She was a member of the U. B. church. The funeral will be held at eleven o'clock today at Zion church, where the remains will be deposited by the side of those of her mother and father. We all join in sharing the grief of the wife and three little children in the loss of our beloved brother. The funeral took place September 29th at the Zion church Rev. Yager officiating. MARRIAGES Friday, November 14, 1890 Charles B. Phillips and Miss Annie Kelley of this village, were married at Deerfield Wednesday evening by Rev. Fr. Wicart, of the Catholic church, in the presence of Mr. and Mrs. J. K Phillips and Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Plunkett. Immediately after the ceremony the bridal party returned to Blissfield, and at the Pennsylvania House were regaled with an elegant wedding supper. Mr. and Mrs. Phillips have a bright and happy future before them, and their many friends will wish them the utmost enjoyment as they float down the stream of life together. The groom is one of our best and most popular businessmen and one who numbers everyone as his friend. The bride has resided in our village some three years as a member in the family of E. B. Plunkett, and is regaled as one of the handsomest young ladies in the village. The young couple will reside for the present in the family of J. E. Phillips.
