Obituaries

 

WILLIAM E. (AKA “BILLYBOB”) BURGESS

William Burgess was born in Gallagher, West Virginia on November 6, 1950, to 
Shelby Lee and Esther (nee Tanner) Burgess. He died on October 5, 2008, after 
a lengthy battle with cancer.

 

Survivors include wife Kristine (nee Kolman) of Ypsilanti, MI; brother Shelby 
Lee Burgess Jr. of Sumerco WV; sister Barbara (Dale) Dye of Gladwin, MI; 
Father-in-law and Mother-in-law Sam and June Kolman of Ypsilanti; brother-
inlaw Michael Kolman (Cynthia Goldie); nephew Kristopher Kolman and his mother 
Karen Kolman of Ypsilanti; niece Tam Woodrum of Stamford CT and numerous other 
family and friends.

 

Billy attended Scott High School in Madison, West Virginia and was lead singer 
for a local band (the Tikis). Upon graduation, he moved to Michigan, attended 
Cleary College and Wayne State University. Billy also proudly served in the 
U.S. Army and was an ROTC student at Eastern Michigan University. Billy worked 
at the Saline Ford plant for 30 years. Billy’s unwavering optimism and sense 
of humor won him many beloved friends over the years. We will miss his “Billy-
isms” and will keep him in our hearts forever.

 

A celebration of Life will be scheduled in the near future. Please make a 
donation to a charity of your choice in lieu of flowers. Services were handled
