ALONZO BROWN Alonzo Brown was born in Leeds County, Ontario, June 11, 1820, and departed this life December 5, 1888, and therefore was aged 68 years, 5 months, and 25 days. He leaves a widow, ten children, and twenty grandchildren to mourn his loss. He was the eldest of a family of seven children, three girls and four boys, two brothers and two sisters still surviving him in Canada, near his birthplace. Alonzo, being of a naturally roving disposition, emigrated to the State of Michigan at the age of 28 years. Limited in means, he had to put up with the hardships of pioneer life. Shortly after he came to Ogden, he purchased and cleared the old homestead on section 11, where he resided until about 6 years ago, when his health failed and he moved to the village of Blissfield, and there he lived until his death. He was a strong temperance advocate and one of the first to organize a temperance sentiment in this vicinity. Regardless of the customs of his boyhood days he was never known to take a drink of intoxicants at the bar during his life. He embraced religion at the old home, Ontario, at the early age of 18 years took up family worship at his father's home circle, and has kept up family worship until a wise Father saw fit to call him home. As regards truthfulness and veracity no one was more precise than he. If there was anything disgusting to him it was a person that did not regard his word. As a conceller he was wise, religiously as well as financially. And the best of all, he left a record behind that is worthy of example. dz
