All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/mi/mifiles.htm ************************************************ CLEMENS VOGEL, 85, IS DEAD OF INJURIES His Son Alvin Was Seriously Hurt In Same Accident CLEMENS VOGEL one of Adrian's well known German residents, died this morning at the Emma L. Bixby Hospital from injuries received in an automobile accident last Saturday morning. Mr. Vogel suffered broken bones and deep lacerations and because of his advanced age was unable to recover from the shock and injuries. He was aged 85 years. Mr. Vogel came to Adrian directly on landing in America from Andelfingen, Wuerttemberg, Germany, his birthplace, on May 16, 1870, and has since lived there. He was a tinsmith by trade and only recently retired from active labors. He operated his shop at 309 Ormsby St and at the time of his 50th wedding anniversary in May 1932, he was still actively engaged in the business and said he had no intention of retiring as long as his good health continued. Mr. and Mrs. Vogel (THERESIA SCHWARTZ) were married May16, 1882, in St Joseph's Church in Adrian but not in the present edifice. He has continued a faithful communicant of that church and was a member of the St Jospeh's Society and the Holy Name Society of that church. Mrs. Vogel died last November 8 and Mr Vogel was also preceeded in death by one daughter Sister Cletus Marie, a member of the Catholic Order of Dominican Nuns. Surviving are three daughters and eight sons- Mrs. Joseph STRACK Sister Helen Grace of the Dominican Order, and Mrs. Harry FISCHERof Adrian, George Vogel of Butte, Mont., Frank of Port Huron, Edwin of Detroit, Henry, Joseph, Carl, Alvin, and Cletus Vogel all of Adrian. Seventeen grandchildren and two great-grandsons also survive. Alvin Vogel was with his father when their car was struck by another on US-112 near Somerset Center last Saturday and he too suffered serious injuries and is a patient in the Bixby Hospital. The body will be at the Vogt & Schwartz Funeral Home until Wednesday afternoon at 4 o'clock when it will be moved to the family residence at 311 Ormsby Strett. The members of the Holy Name Society will recite the rosary Thursday evening at 8 o'clock in the home. A requiem Mass will be conducted Friday morning at 9 o'clock in St Joseph's Church by the Rev. A.C. Schneider. The burial will be in St Joseph's cemetery.
