All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/mi/mifiles.htm ************************************************ Following obituary was found pressed between some pages of the Kingan Bible: See the bible entry on Kingan Bible "Obituary of Mrs. Ellen Kingan The funeral of Mrs. Ellen Kingan was held at 2:00 o'clock Friday afternoon, Feb. 20th, at her home on Burt St. A large number of friends and relatives were present at the service, at which Rev. B. L.. Davies of the Presbyterian church officiated. The pallbearers were nephews of the deceased. Out of town relatives present were Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Service and Mr. and Mrs. Lester Brooks of Clinton, Mr N. F. Doke and Mrs. Jerre Mahony of Marshall, and Mr. Russell Doke of River Rouge. Internment was made at Brookside Cemetery. Mrs. Kingan was born April 4th, 1845. In 1866 she married Jas. Kingan at Tecumseh. After three years in Canada, Mr. and Mrs. Kingan returned to this town. They had six children, two of whom are dead; Martha, who died in infancy, and Dr. Frank Kingan, who died ten years ago. Mrs. Kingan's husband died 27 years ago. Immediate relatives who survive her are her daughters, Margaret, Mrs. Fred Scutt, at home; Mrs. Jas McQueen of Wellsville, Ohio; and a son, Mr. John Kingan of Tecumseh; and two grand-daughters. Mrs. Kingan joined the Presbyterian church of this city in her girlhood. In Canada, she joined a church by letter, but on her return to Tecumseh, she placed her letter in this church in 1870, since which time, until her health failed, she has been a faithful attendant and member." In a Memorial Record book (The Braun Funeral Home, Adrian, Michigan) is found the record: In Memory of Margaret Jane Kingan Birth place: Tecumseh, Michigan Passed Away at: Tecumseh, Michigan Date: Feb. 9, 1948 Age: 75 yrs Interment at: Tecumseh In the back of said book is a small envelope with the cards that accompanied floral arrangements sent to the funeral of Margaret Kingan, also found in this envelope is her obituary: "Miss Margaret Kingan Buried Here, Wednesday Miss Margaret Jane Kingan died Monday morning at 2:45 in the Tecumseh hospital where she had ben taken a few hours before. Born in Tecumseh at 8 Burt street, she lived there all her life. She was a member of the Presbyterian church and a life member of the Tecumseh chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Amey Scutt and two nieces, Mrs. Beatrice Grates and Miss Marjorie McQueen of Roseville. She was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Mrs. Harriot Kingan, who died January 5, her father, James Kingan, mother, Ellen Kingan, two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services were conducted at the Green Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Donald C. Wilson officiating. Burial was in Brookside."
