He was born on July 9, 1924, in Medina Township, the son of Daniel and Catherine (Malarney) Monahan. In 1948, he married Lonnie Yovan, and they had five living children: Colleen (Tom) Henes, Daniel (Vicki) Monahan, Karen (Jeff) Downing, Michael (Mija) Monahan and John (Lynda) Monahan; two daughters, Eileen and Lonnie, died in infancy. In 1986, he married Geri Esterline Brockway. They have two sons, Charles Monahan and Michael (Stephanie) Brockway. John has two granddaughters and nine grandsons. He has four older sisters, Betty (Al) Hendrickson, Regina (Jim) Hafner, Lucy (Jim) Hartley and Lois (Ben) Reuter. John graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1942. He spent his early years farming and milk hauling. He owned and operated the Bi-County Herald with his wife, Geri, son, John, and daughter, Karen; they will continue the business. Mass of the Christian Burial will be on Monday, Nov. 5, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Richard Eberle and Father H. Paul Ruddy as celebrants. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Hudson. There will be a visitation on Sunday from 3 to 8 p.m., with a Rosary Service at 7 p.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home in Hudson.
