He was on his way to Tecumseh Wednesday afternoon, Carroll ROBERTS boarded the Lake Shore east bound train in Adrian for Lenawee Junction, where he intended to change car for Tecumseh. He was accompanied by Lawyer Fred. B. WOOD. and Lawyer WEIR of Laporte, Ind., Mr. WEIR is a cousin of Mr. Robert’s and was going on to Toledo. The three men entered the smoker and just as the train started Mr. Robert’s head dropped back, his hands falling into his lap. Two physicians were on the train, who worked over him but it was of no use. He gasped twice before reaching Lenawee and they continued to work over him until nearly to Toledo, when they gave him up as dead. Wednesday night about 6:30, Mr. WEIR telephone Mr. Wood that they took him to the home of his son, Lynn in Toledo with whom Mr. ROBERTS had been making his home, and that he would be brought here for burial. His death was due to heart disease. Several years ago Carroll ROBERTS, who owned a large farm one half miles south of Tipton was noticed to be acting strangely. He was examined, judged insane, and sent to Kalamazoo. He remained there until last fall, when he escaped and the officers traced him to Laport, Ind., where he was found staying with relatives. Doctors then examined him once more and pronounced him sane. Since that time he has visited relatives and intended soon to visit another son in Chicago. Friends in and near Tecumseh had urged him to come here for a visit and he decided to accompany Attorney Wood home. Naturally the thoughts of visiting his old home and seeing many old friends, would tend to excite him and he had hurried to catch the train although he did not show any signs of fatigue before getting on the train. He leaves two children. Lavern ROBERTS, who resides in Chicago and Lynn of Toledo, who at one time was proprietor of the Steam laundry here. His wife, who was Julia MILLER of Clinton, was killed in a runaway accident several years ago and his daughter, Adalaide, fell from the second story in the barn on the tines of a pitchfork, one of which pierced her heart, instantly killing her. Lavern ROBERTS of Chicago, came here last night and made arrangements to bring his father here this afternoon for burial from Toledo. ----------------------------------------------------- USGENWEB ARCHIVES NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free genealogical information on the Internet, data may be freely used for personal research and by non-commercial entities as long as this message remains on all copied material.
