He was born Sept 29, 1819 in Steuben County, New York, came to Michigan in 1852, and settled in Fairfield Township, where he has since resided. Mr. Reed was a somewhat eccentric man, but was an honest citizen. His burial took place Wednesday afternoon, on his farm, where he had a place prepared for several years. >From the Evening Telegram, Friday, March 20, 1896: The funeral of Hanson Reed, of Jasper occured last Wednesday without religious ceremonies. He ordered his grave bricked up to the top of his coffin, which was not to cost more than $15., and covered with a large flat stone, and no slab of any kind was to mark his final resting place. In life he was a foe to religion and all ministries of the gospel. dz
