VanValkenburg, 82, a lifelong Tecumseh resident died October 10, 2004 in Nampa, Idaho where he had moved ten months ago to live with family. He had been a resident of a care center for just nine days. He was born June 6, 1922, in Franklin Township, Michigan, the son of Deane and Deta (Spalding) VanValkenburg. On December 22, 1941 he married Doris Gafner in Tecumseh. Their home at 108 S. Van Buren remained their residence for 61 years. He graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1940 and served in the U.S. Navy during W.W. II, stationed in the Pacific area and California. He retired from the Tecumseh Products in 1987 after 46 years of service. He enjoyed flying and had his Cessna tied down at Meyers Airport for 23 years. He was a member of the Tecumseh Friends Church and also attended Grace Point Evangelical Free Church. Ronald is survived by his daughter Jane (David) MacDonald of Nampa, ID; son-in- law Dr. Ronald Johnson of Canton, OH; four grandchildren Kristin (Charles) Moore of Massillon, OH., Mark (Jennifer) Johnson of Fayettteville, W.V., Todd (Cheryl) MacDonald of Seattle, WA., and Jonathan (Bonnie) MacDonald of Nampa, ID., five great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law Lois Gafner of Tecumseh and Margaret (John) Kittel of Ann Arbor. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris in 2000 and daughter, Marjorie in 2003. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday October 15, 2004 at the Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh, with the Rev. Todd MacDonald officiating. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday. Burial will be at the Brookside Cemetery.
