It should read Oct 5, 1898. This grave marker is located at the very far side of the cemetery closest to the woods. Additional Comments: William S Butler is the second child of parents Jonathan D Butler and Delana Caroline (Keeber) Butler. He was born 26 Aug 1868 in Palmyra Township, Lenawee County, Michigan. Sergeant William Butler died during the Battle at Sugar Point involving the 3rd US Infantry and Pillager Indians at the Leech Lake Reservation, Cass County, Minnesota. He died 05 Oct 1898 while attempting to report the death of a commanding officer. 05 Oct 1898, Sergeant William Butler was initially buried in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. With the help of the Knights of Pythias fraternal organization members, Sergeant William Butler's body and casket were brought home to Palmyra Township. 13 Oct 1898, funeral rites were presented at the home of Delana Clark, Sergeant William Butler's mother.
